Old Glory Relay

St. Louis-area resident Danielle Francis carries the American flag along the Interstate 44 North Service Road Wednesday morning as she jogs toward the St. Clair VFW as part of the Old Glory Coast to Coast Relay. The relay started in California on Sept. 11 and will conclude on Nov. 11, Veterans Day, at Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland. Running with Francis is Joanna Graham, a member of the board of directors of Team RWB, which is sponsoring the event. When Francis arrived at the VFW, she handed the flag to Jorge Garcia, who lives in the Edwardsville, Ill., area. Garcia then carried the flag about 12 miles to the Sullivan VFW. Francis carried the flag about 3.8 miles from St. Clair to the local VFW post. A small group of St. Clair VFW and American Legion members and St. Clair Fire Protection District firefighters were among those who witnessed the flag transfer.
