Jay Rice uses a mini front-end loader to clear some small cedar trees on city-owned property on the south side of Evergreen Park Thursday afternoon. Rice was helping the city’s parks department clear brush and smaller trees in portions of the wooded area to the south of Park Avenue near the St. Clare Catholic Cemetery for a nine-hole disc golf course. Park board members and city staff earlier had determined the basic layout of the course, which mainly will weave through that wooded area of the park. Rice was clearing areas that will be used for fairways, tee boxes and baskets that will serve as the holes. The city is hoping the course will be open by about Memorial Day.
